Application to glucose clamping: In the investigation of carbohydrate metabolism there are situations when it is important to have access to rapid serial blood glucose data. Notably this is when glucose clamping is applied. This implies maintaining the blood glucose level constant, by means of glucose or insulin infusion, while observations are made on some aspect of metabolism. The new Analox GM9D Glucose Direct analyser enables the immediate analysis of a whole blood sample (5µl or 10µl) with no preparative treatment, and injected directly into the analyser. No collecting tube is needed although one can be used if required. The same pipette used to collect the sample (for example from an indwelling catheter) is used to inject the blood into the analyser. The GM9D can also be used for plasma or other biological samples. Analytical principle: With glucose oxidase enzyme, the analyser measures the rate of oxygen uptake and, under appropriate controlled conditions, this is directly proportional to the glucose concentration:
Operation: Injecting a whole blood sample is all you need to
do to obtain a
result and prepare the analyser for the next analysis. Sample injection via a
very accurate positive displacement pipette triggers the complete
analytical cycle. A hard-copy result is obtained on the integral printer just
32 seconds later. The RS232 port facilitates interface with your PC database. |
