Analox GM9 glucose analyser as replacement for the Beckman Glucose 2

3 Jun 2010

One of the worlds best known clinical glucose analysers, the Beckman Glucose 2 has been discontinued along with the reagent required to operate it and spare parts. Both Beckman and Analox clinical analysers appeared the same year, 1974. The Analox analyser in its current model, the GM9, remains in production and is available ex-stock from Analox Instruments UK and many Analox distributors worldwide. The GM9 produces plasma glucose results exactly equivalent to the Beckman with the added advantage that the reagent consumption is half that of the Beckman. Additionally the Analox analyser can be used for whole blood samples if the appropriate blood collection tubes or capillaries are used. Yet another advantage is that samples as small as 2.5ul can be utilised: particularly useful in small organism research work. The GM9 is in fact one of the most economical glucose analysers available worldwide with a reagent cost per test of about €0.12 ($0.16c US).

For those workers who wish to continue using their Beckman analysers meanwhile, Analox is providing an equivalent glucose reagent specially formulated for the Beckman. This is designated GMRD-300 for a 250ml bottle and is available ex-stock.
