Principle:

In the presence of molecular oxygen, glucose is oxidised by the enzyme glucose oxidase to gluconic acid and hydrogen peroxide:
 

Under the conditions of the assay, oxygen consumption is directly proportional to glucose concentration.
 

Samples:

Plasma, serum, whole-blood collected in Analox tubes or capillaries, C.S.F., urine (suitably diluted) and other aqueous media.

Glucose standards at 5.0, 8.0 and 25.0 mmol/L (30 ml) are available and ordered as required. Other values at 30.0 and 50.0 mmol/L can be supplied to special order.
